I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.
The church at Philippi financially supported the Apostle Paul's missionary journey and in Philippians 4:18, Paul defines the deeper meaning behind their collective sacrifice to spread the Gospel. He tells them without hesitation that their support, "is a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God." To be even more clear about it, a church's collective support for a missionary spreading the Gospel is a picture of what Jesus did on the cross, as we learn from Ephesians 5:2, “Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” If you want your life to be an "acceptable sacrifice to God," learn from the lessons left to us by Philippi and become a part of the spreading of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Live in this way and your life will be blessed, and more importantly, souls will be saved for generations beyond your involvement.
