But Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
It wasn't her looking back that destroyed Lot’s wife, but rather it was her disobedience to God's given command to not look back. The angel’s instruction was clear in Genesis 19:17, “Run for your lives! Do not stop anywhere in the valley. And don't look back! Escape to the mountains, or you will die.” You might even be asking yourself, “Why on earth did she look back?” In all likelihood, she was going to miss the sinful city of Sodom. After all, the Bible teaches us in Luke 12:34, “Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.” When God gives instructions it is our simple responsibility to obey. What we might lose in disobedience is nothing compared to what we gain in Christ’s approval for being obedient.
