Ecclesiastes 5:11
The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what is the advantage of wealth except perhaps to watch it run through your fingers!A saying that I've always admired is, “There is poverty in riches and riches in poverty.” Ecclesiastes 5:11 rings true to the point where one would require a gift of discernment just to wisely choose the people with whom to surround oneself with because of the expenses that come with people. Matthew 26:7-13 gives us the best example: "During supper, a woman came in with a beautiful jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head. The disciples were indignant when they saw this. 'What a waste of money,' they said. 'She could have sold it for a fortune and given the money to the poor.' But Jesus replied, 'Why berate her for doing such a good thing to me? You will always have the poor among you, but I will not be here with you much longer. She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. I assure you, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman's deed will be talked about in her memory.'" If you find yourself wondering which friends to expend your gifts with, remember that Jesus is the best friend you'll ever had and that what is spent for God has eternal significance.
