2 Timothy 3:4
They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.According to the Persians of old, after winning a war, Persia would choose a slave and make him king for three days. The slave would be clothed in royal robes and treated just as the king would be treated. Everything he would wish for would be granted to his pleasure. However, and here’s the deadly catch, after the third day he would be killed as a sacrifice for mirth and folly. This “situation” is symbolic of the short-lived pleasures of the world. If you could have everything that the world would offer, you would still need to understand that those pleasures are short-lived when compared to the eternal joy that God will give. The lesson is quite simple: instant gratification does not bring long term happiness.
