GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES

Have you ever found yourself in the vicious cycle of sinning the same sin over and over again? Ecclesiastes 1:9 teaches that, “History, merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.” There’s really nothing new happening on earth – only old things happening to new people. The sinful things that we’re doing today are the same sinful things that were done in years long past. If you study history you’ll find that the great civilizations have lasted about 200 years and that the timetable mirrors a journey: people go from slavery to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence all the way back to where we started – slavery. You can put an end to this vicious cycle by being mindful of what 1 Peter 2:16 tells us, “You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom should not be an excuse to sin. Live as servants of God.” Make a choice to stop going around in a circle as slaves to sin, but rather to serve and gain freedom.
