VALUE OF SHORT-LIVED PLEASURES

2 Timothy 3:4
They will betray their friends,
be reckless, be puffed up with pride,
and love pleasure rather than God.

According to the Persians of old, after a war victory Persia would choose a slave and make him king for three days. The slave would be clothed in royal robes and treated just as the king would be treated. Everything he would wish for would be granted to his pleasure. However, and here’s the catch, after the third day he would be killed as a sacrifice for mirth and folly. This “situation” is symbolic of the short-lived pleasures of the world. If you have everything that the world can offer, you still need to understand that those pleasures are short-lived when compared to the eternal joy that God will give.
