A gossip tells secrets,
so don't hang around with
someone who talks too much.
A small town lady was reprimanded by the only pastor in town because of her constant meddling into her neighbors' affairs. She would defend herself by saying, “Oh well, just meddling into my neighbors’ affairs isn’t as bad as what Mrs. so and so does. That woman gets drunk and does all sorts of dreadful things!” It's sad to say, but many Christians have a lot in common with this lady. Gossiping is so bad that the Bible actually places it right alongside sins like murder and theft as we learn from Romans 1:29, “Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, fighting, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.” Be very leery of gossipers and be even more careful of becoming one. It's sad to say, but big mouthed gossipers usually have a reputation that is well deserved.
